Another type of printmaking studio is exemplified by the highly professional Artist's Press in White River, and run by Mark Attwood, a lithographer trained at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mark holds the titled of Master Printer in lithography, and does collaborative work with artists who may not be skilled in printmaking, but would like to express some ideas using the medium. Mark's assistants are also trained at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque. The expertise of the printers, the quality of the studio, and the quality of the prints is of world class standards.

Hello there Nels

I would have loved to visit South Africa myself, as a printmaker. With the limitations placed on my because of my health - it is not possible. Reading through your account of your visit there, was the next best thing. It was really interesting and you put things into context thereby giving us a 'feel' of how life is for the people who live there, day to day.

Its an excellent account and the landscape must have seemed a wonderfully refreshing experience after encountering the harsh social conditions that the majority live within.

Have you maintained contact with any of those you met? I was thinking particularly of those community print workshops.?

Incidentally, I met Dominic Thorburn at the Impact printmaking Conference in Bristol in 1999.

What printmaking are you doing now?

best wishes
